How to setup a Stripe account

What you’ll need before you start

Stripe verifies your identity and your bank account before it can pay you out, so have this ready:

  • Your legal name and date of birth
  • Your Social Security Number (SSN) or ITIN — if you’re setting this up as an individual. If you’re using a registered business (like an LLC), you’ll need your EIN and business details instead.
  • Your home address, phone number, and email
  • Your bank account and routing number — this is where your payouts land
  • A short description of what you’re selling — for Gettagether, this is usually “reunion event tickets, registrations, and merchandise”

📌 Note: Stripe collects this information directly — Gettagether never sees or stores your SSN, EIN, or bank details. You can read exactly what Stripe requires and why on their Required Verification Information page.

Steps

  1. Go to Community Settings. Click Settings in the left menu.
  2. Click Connect Stripe. You’ll find this under the Payments section of Settings.

📌 Note: Only the community Owner can connect Stripe. This step can’t be delegated to an Admin.

  1. Complete Stripe’s onboarding form. You’ll be redirected to a secure, Stripe-hosted page. Enter your information from the checklist above, then submit. This typically takes about 10–15 minutes.
  2. Return to Gettagether. Once you submit, you’ll land back on your community. Stripe verifies most accounts quickly, but occasionally asks for extra documentation — if so, you’ll see a notice with what’s still needed.
  3. Check your status on the Dashboard. Until setup is complete, you’ll see a Continue Onboarding reminder under Needs Attention on your Dashboard. Once Stripe finishes verifying you, that reminder disappears and you’re ready to accept payments.

💡 Tip: You can always check or update your information directly at dashboard.stripe.com — that’s your own Stripe account, separate from Gettagether.

📌 Note: A platform fee of 1% + $0.25 applies per transaction on top of Stripe’s own standard processing fees. See Stripe’s pricing for their current rates.

📌 Note: If ownership of your community is ever transferred, the new Owner will need to connect their own Stripe account — Stripe accounts aren’t transferable between owners.
